If you’ve spoiled yourself with an extended weekend or you’re just looking for somewhere to get you out of the rain, we’ve got you covered with our picks of the activities, events and openings happening around the inner city. We’ll even throw in a few road trip suggestions if you’re headed out of the big smoke to explore away from Melbourne. Remember – with our Pods on Sale discount on every Flexicar this month you’ll have a pocket full of savings to spend!
The Colour Run is back this Saturday but with a twist – this is Australia’s first ever RNB Colour Run. Runners start off in white and are doused in neon colours at every kilometre of the 5k fun run to finish up gloriously colourful stars - but this Colour Run gets even better. Each ‘Colour Zone’ features illuminating bubbles, huge neon colour throws and the best bit – RnB Friday style beats to get you pumped for the huge Finish Festival dance party. Tickets are selling fast. Get them here.
If you’re after something a bit less exercise-y, go all out at some of the foodie activities that are happening. Queen Vic Market hosts the semi-finals of an international paella contest, and the Showgrounds will be the home of Meatstock; the music and barbeque festival running over both Saturday and Sunday.
In case you haven’t heard; there’s a mini golf cocktail bar that has just opened in the CBD. We’re not entirely sure how this happened but boy are we glad it did. Bookings are recommended for this one, so even if you can’t get in this weekend put it on your to-do list; it’s open every night. As always, make sure you have a designated driver or get yourself home safely – drinking and driving is not okay.
Want to do something a bit spontaneous? Head to the Arts Centre at 6pm each night to grab tixatsix – a select number of tickets that are made available to particular shows for only $30. If you’re after a new experience or just have nothing to do, try your luck and see what’s on. Remember to check the What’s On calendar to make sure there is actually a show on the night you choose – it’s across all genres and venues (Hamer Hall and Sidney Myer included) so there’s bound to be something to tickle your cultural
fancy. Plus – cheap!
This weekend’s road trip destination is Ballarat – the jewel of the goldfields. It’s beautiful in Autumn with its European tree-lined streets turning all sorts of wonderful colours, and if you are after art this is your place with Ballarat being home to the biggest and largest Art Gallery in regional Australia. There’s some wonderful dining and new cafes are opening all the time for your brunch needs; the beautiful Lake Wendouree and surrounding paths and Botanical Gardens and it’s close to some other road trip hot spots in Vic with Daylesford only being a short distance away. Grab a Flexicar for the weekend and check out the Ballarat website for everything you need to know.
